Braided Together - Hair in the Work of Contemporary Women Artists
The exhibition Braided Together brings together nine international contemporary women artists who each investigate the symbolic meaning of hair in their work. The exhibition is the first of its kind to consider hair and women artists, and will investigate concerns such as fragility, power and loss. In partnership with the exhibition, there will be a catalogue with essays from invited writers specializing in this field -- this will broaden the issues raised by the exhibiting artists and link the debate back to a wider art historical context. The exhibition is organised by Basket House Village Universe (BHVU) Gallery, an artist led space in Stoke Newington, North London, with a growing reputation for showing challenging and innovative exhibitions.
